Andrew Roberts, November 14 2014:
I always get asked at least twice at every gameday whether a table should go high or low. Here is a guide that should help with that...please note that there is no choice in the matter unless it is listed below:
Show ContentSeason 3 and Before:
1. Calculate APL. When doing so, round to the nearest whole number. If you have an APL that is exactly inbetween two whole numbers, such as APL 4.5, the party can choose whether they round up or down.
2. If the party is in a subtier for the scenario, you're done! Run in that subtier.
3. If the party is inbetween subtiers, you play down if you have 5 or fewer players, or play up if you have 6 or more players.
Show ContentSeason 4 and After:
1. Calculate APL. When doing so, round to the nearest whole number. If you have an APL that is exactly inbetween two whole numbers, such as APL 4.5, the party can choose whether they round up or down.
2. If the party is in a subtier for the scenario, you're done! Run in that subtier, using the 4 player adjustment if there are only 3 or 4 players.
3. If the party is in between subtiers, you play down without the 4 player scaledown if you have 4 or fewer players, or play up with the 4 player scaledown if you have 5 or more players.
Show ContentSpecial Case:
If the higher subtier is determined to be the appropriate one, and no one is actually in the level range of that subtier, then the party can choose to play down.
For example, if there are (6) Level 3's playing in a 1-5 in Season 2, that would simply be the 4-5 subtier (per the rules above). However, no one in the party is actually 4-5, so they can choose to play down. If it were the same situation with (3) Level 2's and (3) Level 4's, they would not have that choice as there are people in the 4-5 subtier.
A convenient flowchart of this process for your consideration:

Welcome to the Georgia PFS Introductions! Please introduce yourself so we can all bask in your glory!!! Seriously though, even if everyone knew you on the previous forum, please take this opportunity to tell us a little about yourself and how you are involve (or planning to get involve with Georgia PFS. (Consider it an opportunity to reinvent yourself.)
I am David Shaw, Venture Lieutenant for Athens GA. If you don’t know me already, I am the large, tall, and loud guy at many PFS events. I have been playing RPGs for over 30 years, and love to run tables for new players. If you have any questions, I am always happy to make up an answer. I am known (at least I think) for playing various religious zealots from pacifist shepherds to devil worshipper bounty hunters.
Look forward to seeing you at the table!!

Welcome to the Georgia Pathfinder Society Forums!!!
Georgia PFS (and it forums) are one of the oldest and most active PFS communities. We are very happy you have found us, and look forward to seeing you at one of our gamedays.
New to Pathfinder Society (PFS)? I would highly recommend you look at the link below. One of our many players wrote an excellent post on PFS and how it works here and in communities all over the world.
New Players Link
Looking for a local game?. Just select the forum on a venue that you want to attend and there will be listed events scheduled at that venue. Simply reply to the thread with what table you would like to sit at, and what character you would like to bring. If you don’t have a character, don’t worry. Just post that in the reply as well, and we will be happy to bring one for you to play.
Have general questions? Start a new thread in the General form, and some of our local experts will get you an answer ASAP. Or if you are an expert, feel free to weigh in on one of our many debates yourself.
Not sure which venue is for you? Post a hello in "Introduce Yourself", and a Venture Officer will be happy to reach out any help you find the right venue for you.
We are excited you are here and can’t wait to see you at the table!!!
