With the surge in COVID cases in the Metro Atlanta area, GA PFS will be offering virtual sessions for DragonCon 2021.  As of this moment in time, DragonCon is intended to be held as a blended in-person/virtual convention, however, the Mayor of Atlanta indicated in her press conference on 8/3 that the city may roll back to phase 2 of its reopening plan, which would ban gatherings of greater than 10 people, effectively canceling DragonCon's in-person portion if the city goes down that road.

With that having been said, I am still looking for volunteers to step up and run sessions or man HQ during DragonCon 2021.

The GM and HQ Sign-Up process has a few steps:

1. Submit the Google Form to indicate your interest in volunteering
   
2. Submit the Google Form for DragonCon Online Volunteers
   
3. If you intend to volunteer for 5 slots or more, submit the DragonCon Volunteer Form
   
4. Review the schedule and sign up for slots, whether to run sessions or for virtual HQ.
   
5. Make sure to get me what you intend to run prior to August 12 so I can submit to get any scenarios you may not have
   
6. Get access to the DragonCon Discord Server
   
7. Have a way to get chronicle sheets to players after the session (my recommendation is RPGChronicles.net)
   
8. Get your prep done on whichever Virtual Tabletop you intend to use
   
9. Show up and check-in at least 20 minutes prior to session time on game day.
   
10. Have fun.

Badges are required for entry, and can be purchased directly from the Southern-Fried Gaming Expo (SFGE) website. Health and Safety requirements have been announced on their site, and masks will be required at the event.


We will have our own private area in a restaurant at the facility that will not be in use, and will request vaccinated players only (SFGE will check for proof of vaccine and provide wristbands to indicate vaccination status). I got an email from SFGE leadership last night. They’re offering the use of a restaurant that won’t be in use during the convention, if we’re interested. It’s away from where most of the convention action will be taking place and the tables are spaced out to make distancing easier. They’re also willing to let us make it a vaccinated only event, if we so choose, though masking will also be needed. I plan on calling them to discuss further (after I’m a bit more awake) and will provide more information as I get it.

I advised DragonCon leadership this evening that GA PFS will not be offering any in-person sessions at this year's convention.  Based on the GM pool and the press conference the mayor held today indicating the City of Atlanta is close to rolling back to phase 2 of their reopening plan (which bans gatherings of more than 10 people), I did not feel we could offer the type of experience that would be beneficial to our player base or to DragonCon and keep us all safe.  I also found it to be very disconcerting to see their August 1 update and not see any mention of Campaign RPG's statements about only allowing fully vaccinated individuals to participate.  

I am working on the schedule of games to offer at DragonCon and will have it finalized within the next few days.  My hope is that there may be something on it to entice you to participate, though I also understand we're all a little burned out (to say the least) with online gaming.

The City of Atlanta instituted a mask mandate effective last night, so all individuals, vaccinated or not, are required to mask indoors in the city. 

Southern-Fried Gaming Expo announced their health and safety policies (which are subject to change) prior to the city mandate (but the convention also takes place in an unincorporated area of Cobb County, which has not made any announcement about masking).  SFGE's intention is to push forward with an in-person convention (unless something changes between now and August 20th).  Because of changes at DragonCon with respect to the game space for this year and a request from SFGE to partner with them going forward, my plan has been to offer the Season 2 PF2 special and the Season 3 SF special at this convention but to also focus on low level and intro scenarios.  If you're interested in signing up, please fill out the GM Questionnaire and sign up for the spots you'd like to run on the event Warhorn page.  The upside - 3 hours of running games gets you a free day pass, while 7 hours or more gets you a free weekend pass.  The downside - I have to submit the scenario request form no later than tomorrow to meet the 3 weeks in advance deadline, so anyone willing to sign up but unable to do so until after tomorrow will be on their own for the scenarios.

As for DragonCon, they have not made an official announcement of their health and safety policies (they are holding off until August 1).  Being within the city limits, they will have no choice but to follow the mask mandate  DragonCon 2021 is going to be a blended offering of in-person and online this year.  On the GM Questionnaire, there is a specific question around whether you are willing to GM live and in-person or online.  The tentative schedule, which includes Campaign RPG, On-Demand Gaming (Quests / Bounties), and Online should also act as the sign-up form for which scenario(s) would be of interest should you choose to run.  The scenario request form for DragonCon is due no later than August 12.

To date, I have 3 GMs signed up for SFGE and 5 signed up for DragonCon, which puts participation in either convention in jeopardy.  I'm at a point with DragonCon where my temptation, due to the number of GM sign-ups, is to move our participation to a 100% online model, but that will also depend on the answers to the survey questions.

With the Delta variant causing havoc, I completely understand if you're hesitant to attend an in-person offering, but would request your consideration of the online option for DragonCon, if you are available and want to be involved.
