AtlantaPFS Convention Update

Anyone who’s been involved with GeorgiaPFS and AtlantaPFS is familiar with the two mainstay conventions we’ve supported – MomoCon and DragonCon. Last year, we picked up a third convention – Southern-Fried Gaming Expo.

This year, we’ve picked up two more events – Marietta the Gathering and Multiverse.

Marietta the Gathering is in its first year and is being put together by the City of Marietta Department of Parks & Recreation. They reached out to invite us to participate in the inaugural event, and we are going to do whatever we can to help make it both memorable and successful. We plan to run sessions of both PF2 and SF Beginner Boxes, PF2 and SF Bounties, and “Build & Play” sessions where players and Game Masters will discuss and work on building characters the players can then run through a Bounty immediately after creation is completed.

One of our former Venture-Officers is involved with Multiverse, and has been discussing our participation with their Gaming Director. As of today, we’ve been asked/given the okay to join in the fun with some introductory adventures to help people learn the games, putting emphasis on games where people can drop in, pick a pregenerated character to play, enjoy their session, and (hopefully) rejoin us with a character of their own at a future time.

MomoCon can trace its origin back to 2004, when the first convention took place under the name Techwood Con and has expanded greatly since it first was held. Planning is currently underway for MomoCon 2023, though it is likely safe to say that there will be an emphasis on lower to mid-level scenarios and bounties for PF2 and SF. Could PF1 be part of the mix? When the official schedule is complete, all will be revealed.

Southern-Fried Gaming Expo will be celebrating its 10th year this year. Last year was our first participating in this convention, and it was also their first year offering TTRPGs. We learned a lot and shared not only our learnings from this convention, but what we’ve learned from others with convention leadership so we can continue to grow together.

DragonCon began in 1987 with an initial estimated attendance of 1400. Its pre-pandemic attendance reached an estimated 85000 people in 2019. For those who may have missed the announcement made a few days ago (see https://atlantapfs.org/news.php?extend.42 for more on this), we plan to run 9 interactive specials at DragonCon this year and to offer tables of Pathfinder 1st Edition as well as 2nd Edition and Starfinder.

The conventions we support by offering game sessions either share or have similar values to Paizo Organized Play with respect to equality, diversity, and inclusion. The scenarios we offer also reflect these values.
