What happened to the Previous forums and site?

I go away for a few months to deal with having a child (a healthy boy) and the forum implodes on itself. What happened?

Also, Sarah is doing well (for those that know my wife).

Short, non-techie version:

Database corrupt - likely lost forever, may be recovered someday with extensive effort, but not a burning priority.
Old software replaced with new (and more stable) shiny.
