Hey y'all,
I just posted this thread in the Paizo organized play forum and I wanted to cross-post here since I know that many of you (wisely) don't read the paizo forums. Since it pertains specifically to the well-being of PFS in our region, I thought it might interest some of you, and some of you may wish to add your own thoughts about the subject there.
The specific background is that, in another thread, Del Collins, the Regional Venture Coordinator under whose authority we here in Georgia fall, made the claim that PFS is doing well in the southeast. (That claim was itself part of a MUCH larger discussion/debate/controversy that is currently playing out on the paizo boards and elsewhere).

You'll note that there's no mention of the metrics used.
From his comment there's no telling if he's referring to # of game days which occur, # of reported players involved in game days annually or even just # of PFS ID#'s registered / given out each year. Personally, I suspect the latter as it would make him look best if he counted any time a PFS # was registered / given out even if that player only played once (or even never).

I can only give my entirely subjective one-person viewpoint, but I haven't seen as much PFS activity lately and I've been able to participate in even less. In my case, it's because I've done most of the earlier scenarios and only the newly published ones (first weekend of the month) get much attendance--usually a LOT of attendance. I'd be happy to do some Core scenarios, but that doesn't seem to be very popular. A lot of activity seems to have shifted over to Starfinder.

Our number of venues here in Atlanta are shrinking, and the new locations don't make up for what we have lost. Also, participation had majorly dropped, from what I have observed. Some of that seems to be a reduction in the number of people who are committed to organizing and running. But, i took time off to get married and have a kid, so maybe I missed something.
Also, 5e AL is kicking butt. The Atlanta area has some great organizers, in general.

Anecdotally, and super hand-wavey:
PFS is down in Florida, hubs remain in Orlando, Miami, Tampa, and Space Coast.
SFS is not nearly the draw there that it is in Atlanta.

I'm starting to get the idea that SFS requires someone dedicated to it to introduce it into the area. It seems like once you get something started, it grows, but until someone puts in that initial investment, it won't grow much. Of course, we are in Atlanta, where the market in general is strong, but when I was a part of the L5R and Shadowrun Missions OP programs, you had to be dedicated...

A key frame of reference - did you read Foundation or LotR first as a kid.

I read Isaac Asimov's Foundation series as a kid. Never read LotR.

Oh, you've got a huge treat ahead of you in that case. LotR is amazing and so much more than the movies. I've lost count of how many times I've read them.
I've read the Foundation series multiple times too and it's great too, but not even close to being in the same league as LotR.
