Good Large Mats - Travis_Meyer - 01-03-2019

I am looking into getting a larger mat and was wondering if anyone had any advice on what is a good product to get. One option is the Chessex Megamat, but I wanted to see if anyone had used a cheaper option that worked well.

It's a portable specialty item that has dominated the market for a decade or longer. The only thing that has come close in the size of the mega mat and pre-printed one inch squares has been pattern makers paper and that's a one use item. I used 1 inch graph easel presentation paper to make the battle field for a 8 x 12 foot orcs assaulting the border mot and bailey fort. But that is a one use option as well, unless its a popular society map that can make the rounds to the events.

Weird suggestion, but I noticed over the holidays that some wrapping paper now has a grid printed on the non-pretty side to assist with folding. The grid looks to be close, if not the same sizing as printed mats. Also one-time use, but it's an option.

The chessex ones are a real workhorse. I have three of them and two mondo mats, and one small one. They all get used.
